1917 UNDERWOOD No. 4 or 5
ANTIQUE MANUAL MECHANICAL
4 BANK TYPEWRITER
SERIAL NO 857477
Lovely Underwood No. 4 or 5 Typewriter. Serial number of 857477 confirmed a manufacturing date of 1917.
I rescued this old machine from a barn sale, and it was in very rough shape until I got it in my shop. The machine was cleaned and oiled, but has extensive surface rust on much of the chrome and mechanical parts. I left this rust intact for the shabby chic look it adds where it was displayed. This rust can be removed with #OO steel wool and light oil such as WD-40 to completely restore it to original.
The keys work, including the color shift RED/BLACK and CAPS/LOWERCASE, NUMBER/CHARACTERS. There is no ribbon or spools included, but I will provide you a source to purchase one if you like. The rubber feet are intact, with minimal wear and markings - they are not rotten. 95% of the original paint and gold lettering is intact and brilliant looking. See all photos to determine this for yourself.
While this machine is not able to be used immediately on arrival, since it is considered more of a display piece at this point, but everything is there mechanically to bring it back to 100% functionality if you choose. We have adjusted the price to reflect the work needed to do this. Thanks for looking.
Another fine vintage item from Steamcrunk.
