This lovely vintage cream and brown colored cookie jar was made in the 1970-1980s time period by RRPCO - Robinson Ransbotton Pottery Co. in Roseville Ohio.
There is a beautiful country farm scene showing a barn, windmill, wood pole fence and trees around the entire circumference of the cookie jar. We recently acquired this at an estate auction from the family of a woman who went to a retirement home, she would be quite happy to know you would love and cherish this piece as much as she did. The woman whom this was acquired from was an artist, and had many hand painted pieces similar to this scene in her home. It is unknown if this piece came from the factory finished this way, or if she added the pastoral farm scene in herself, but it is a gorgeous piece to behold with no cracks, chips or scratches inside or out. It may very well be one-of-a-kind.
The Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company was established in 1900 and remained in operation for over 100 years. At the time of its closing they claimed to be the oldest continuously operating stoneware factory in the U.S. and the world's largest manufacturer of stoneware crocks. They also advertised that its products were manufactured with clay that was mined within 10 to 15 miles of the factory in Roseville, Ohio.
RRPCo ceased operation in 2005. There was never any relationship between Robinson Ransbottom and the Roseville Pottery, but you can see why people would be under that impression and why people often confuse RRPCO pieces with Roseville pottery. Despite this, this a wonderful stoneware cookie jar that would accent any country home.
